This workshop will provide an overview of the minerals industry, throughout the main stages of the cycle. Take a walk through the exploration and geology, mining, and processing aspects, then learn about sustainability in mining. Intended for non-minerals professionals, attending this workshop will demystify the industry and increase understanding about the technologies and practices used, and the role of the minerals industry in our society. This workshop is designed to challenge our collective thinking, foster a group reflection on the nature of innovation, and devise strategies to cultivate an environment conducive to people learning and thinking better together. Exercises will be used to get participants thinking in new ways, to challenge our assumptions and current patterns of thought, and open new windows of opportunity for creative approaches. Following, case studies will be presented that demonstrate the practical implementation of innovative thinking in mining as well as other industries. The workshop will be facilitated by systems thinkers, and participants will gain practical methods for critical thinking.
