Involvement of rural youth in farm activities

The resources of any nation for development are its people and its natural resources like land, water etc. Among human resource, the vital chunk happens to be its youth. The youth, a bulk of total population of the country, are national cream and the future crown with full possession of physical built and mental tenacity and power. The rural youth, male and female, because of their family and community background in farming, are active partners in various agricultural activities. Since, youth are recognised as effective "agents of change" they can help in the process of dissemination and adoption of modern techniques and methods of agriculture and can take active part in the removal resistance to innovations among rural people. Most of the contributions made by rural youth to the farm sector goes unaccounted as they are not directly paid. They always remained as invisible workers in spite of their pivotal role and remain silently behind all efforts of their parents. In this context, this study was conducted to know the participation level of rural youth in agriculture and horticulture.
