Trinidad and Tobago plans to set limits for formaldehyde, azo dyes in textiles

Trinidad and Tobago is planning to restrict the use of formaldehyde and azo dyes in certain textiles and clothing. The country’s Bureau of Standards notified the draft mandatory standard to the WTO on 1 December, which sets limits for formaldehyde in the following textiles: clothing articles intended to be worn by babies up to 36 months of age – the maximum limit of formaldehyde is 20 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg); clothing articles with direct skin contact – 75 mg/kg; and textile articles without direct skin contact, such as some coats, curtains and textile wallpaper – 300 mg/kg.
