South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) is consulting until 22 December on adding two colourants to its list of permitted cosmetic ingredients, bringing it in line with international practices. The ministry announced the proposed amendment to its Types and Standards of Cosmetic Colors and Test Methods on 12 December. The colourants, which can exist in a number of isomers, are: lycopene II: a lycopene mixture extracted via the Wittig reaction – a carbon-carbon bond forming reaction, which allows for an extension of the carbon chain; and
