RESPONSE OF FODDER MAIZE CV. SOUTH AFRICAN TALL TO SEED RATE

AMONG the cultivated cereal forages, maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the most important crops grown all round the year under irrigated conditions. South African tall variety of fodder maize is a quick growing, succulent palatable, high yielding nutritious and does not have any antinutritional qualities. Shortage of fodder is a major problem in livestock production. Owing to the limited scope for extending the area under forage production, increasing forage productivity would cause for meeting the demand for fodder. Taneja et al. (1984) obtained highest forage yield at 60 kg seeds per ha. Maintaining optimum plant population through optimum seed rate is one of the techniques for raising the productivity of fodder crops.
