The Miller-Urey experiment

How did life begin? The evolution of life on our planet probably started with the formation of complex molecules from the atmosphere of early Earth. In the 1950s, the Miller-Urey experiment replicated these conditions in a laboratory, famously making five amino acids. Hailed as a major breakthrough, the experiment was later criticised for making the wrong molecules in the wrong conditions. Revisiting the experiment has shown that Miller and Urey made more amino acids than they originally thought.
