Encapsulation of vecuronium by the modified y-cyclodextrin sugammadex: a new concept in clinical pharmacology

Introduction: Cyclodextrins are ring-shaped sugar molecules with a b'pophilic inner cavity and hydrophilic outer surface, enabling formation of unique host-guest complexes with hydrophobic mole-cules. Cyclodextrins have been applied for improving the bioavail-ability of poorly soluble drugs, and increasing the concentration of drugs at the target site. The present study investigates whether cyclodextrins can be used for preventing the action of drugs, by evaluating the effects of the modified y-cyclodextrin sugammadex on vecuronium-induced moderate neuromuscular block in surgical patients.
