Recently a number of high-profile people have spoken about issues with their mental health, including Prince Harry and Rio Ferdinand. This has raised awareness of the prevalence of mental health problems in the general public; a common statistic quoted is that one in four people will experience some form of mental health problem every year (Mind, 2016). In a recent editorial BJN, Peate (2017) commented on a survey of students in higher and further education (All Party Parliamentary Group on Students, 2015), which found that 78% had experienced mental health issues in the past year. Another area that is receiving increasing recognition is the association (generally positive) between religion and mental health (Koenig, 2008; Dein, 2013).
