US April housing starts rise 6.6% from March

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US April housing starts rose 6.6% from March, and building permits rose 3.6%, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development said on Tuesday. Privately-owned housing starts in April were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,172,000, up from an upward-revised March estimate of 1,099,000. Economists polled by a media group had expected April housing starts at 1.13m. On a year-on-year comparison, housing starts were down 1.7% from April 2015.
