An investigation to study the regulatory effects of certain inorganic salts (NaCI and MgCI_2) and organic acids (glycine and citric acid) on in vivo nitrate reductase (NR, EC 1.6.6.1) activity in rice plants has been carried out. Addition of NaCI andMgCl2 to the infiltration medium: resulted in inhibition of NR activity under both the light and dark conditions in both the tissues. Addition of amino acid glycine decreased the root NR activity under both the conditions, but the effect is not to an appreciable extent in the case of shoot. Increase in NR activity was observed in the presence of citric acid in both the tissues under both the conditions.
