Critical Analysis of the Safety Assessment of Cosmetic Ingredients Performed at the Eyropean Level

According to the European cosmetic legislation, colourants, preservatives and UV filters are allowed in finished cosmetic products provided (a) they figure in Annex IV, VI or VII to the Cosmetic Products Directive [EU, 1976], respectively, and (b) they comply with the imposed restrictions and conditions. Substances taken up in Annex III are forbidden to be used outside the restrictions in concentrations and applications provided.
