Tangshan city government announced new production restrictions for local steelmakers till the end of October, which, however, are easier than in the previous month. The news propelled iron ore price up on Thursday, while Tangshan billet quotes remained untouched after a drop. According to market sources and local press, steelmakers belonging to group A, who meet ultra-low emission level (only Shougang Qian’an Iron and Steel), and those in group B will continue normal operations. Producers ranking category C will have to cut sintering and pelletizing capacities as well as lime kiln and BF operations by at least 50% for October 10-31.
