(1-x)Pb(Zr0.45Ti0.55)O-3-(x)SmFeO3 (abbreviated as (1-x)PZT-(x)SF) solid solutions have been synthesized in composition range 0.10 <= x <= 0.15 by solid state reaction route. Rietveld analysis of X-ray diffraction data and the occurrence of A" (450-550 cm(-1)) and A' (650-850 cm(-1)) modes in the fitted Raman Spectra reveal the presence of tetragonal (P4mm) and monoclinic (Cm) phases in the samples: The weak ferro-magnetic character observed from M-H hysteresis curves and the maximum value of remnant magnetization (M-r) is 7.75*10(-4) emu/g for x = 0.12. Magnetically induced ferroelectric behavior indicated the occurrence of magnetoelectric coupling in the samples. The remnant polarization (P-r) enhanced from 3.68 mu C/cm(2) to 7.09 mu C/cm(2) for x = 0.12 after applied magnetic field. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
