Group II, III base oils continue to drive global lubes market

This was the sentiment shared by speakers at the 22nd ICIS World Base Oils & Lubricants conference which was held in London on Feb. 21-23. This push toward Group II and III base stocks is leading to the closure of Group I capacity throughout the world, particularly in Europe. Yannick Jullien, Lubes Customer Technical Service Manager EMEA at petroleum, additives firm Infineum, remarked "European Group I base stock plants that have shut down include some important capacities in the UK, France, the Netherlands, and Russia."
