According to a survey by the Japan Iron & Steel Recycling Institute or JISRI, Chairman, Mr. Hiroyuki Ito, who is also President of Taisei Kinzoku Co., Ltd., the ferrous scrap market price “was driven by the international price and increased since the end of May. In June. the market price increase gained momentum and rose sharply. Particularly in the Kanto area, where the export ratio is high, the price for H2 to electric furnace steelmakers in the area temporarily jumped to Y 26,000-26,500/ton, up by Y 8,000 from the previous month’s bottom price.” It noted, however, “The price suddenly began to decline at the end of the month. The market entered July with the pace of the price decline accelerating.”
