Just one millionth of a litre of sweat could be used to test for glucose, according to a team in South Korea. In March 2017, the researchers based at the University of Seoul showed that their flexible, sweat-based sensor can provide accurate measures, at least in the short term (Science Advances, 2017;3(3):e1601314). One challenge - as with tears - is that there is less glucose in sweat than there is in blood, so it is harder to find. Other chemicals in sweat, such as lactic acid, can also disrupt the results.
