In the CHAMPION study, William Abraham and colleagues assessed a wireless pulmonary artery monitoring system in patients with heart failure. The study shows a very impressive decrease in 6-month hospital admission rates. Abraham and colleagues acknowledge, "the challenges inherent in maintaining patient masking and in minimisation of the effect of investigator-patient and device-patient interactions on outcome" and appropriately state that "Great care was taken to successfully assure patient masking and a singular, objective, primary endpoint was chosen to minimise the potential of unmasking." However, the latter seems a rather nebulous statement and we wonder whether Abraham and colleagues could be more specific as to the great care taken.
