Our modern society is based essentially on a large number of diversified types of materials with varying properties including ceramics, nanotubes, polymers, core-shell systems, advanced or biomaterials and the numerous applications of these materials in electronic devices, chips, sensors, fuel cells, energetic sources, drugs,...i.e., almost everything we use daily. This is certainly an interesting but wide area of expertise. Thus, we have invited scientists with different expertise, to filter out through their work, an overview of the field. We will continue to provide a 'summarized idea" of the exciting research published by the selected/invited scientists in this Special Thematic Issue, of which this is Part V. The papers in this Special Issue should describe different types of synthesis including solid-state reaction, microwave hydrothermal, solvothermal, polymeric precursor for different morphologies, combustion methods, pulsed laser deposition and ultrasound-assisted deacetylation process. The characterization techniques include infrared spectroscopy, photoluminescence measurements, Raman and X-ray, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, field-emission gun scanning electron microscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance.
