Duke Energy’s pending coal retirements at 5,002 MW

With the Asheville coal-fired plant in North Carolina retired earlier this year, the list of coal plants to be retired by Duke Energy is now a bit shorter and stands at a total of 5,002 megawatts. The Asheville coal units (384 MW total) were retired in January and replaced by a gas-fired, 560- MW, combined-cycle plant built at the same site.
