EU carbon dioxide allowance prices fell sharply in heavy selling Monday as government carbon auctions resumed after a three- week break over the Christmas period. EU Allowance futures contracts for December 2019 delivery on the ICE Futures Europe exchange fell as low as Eur21.86/mt ($25.06/mt) Monday morning, down from Eur23.73/mt at Friday’s close. The aggressive selling came as carbon auctions resumed after a three-week halt over the holidays. EU common auctions got under way Monday with a sale of 2.495 million EUAs that cleared at Eur23.01/mt.
