Singapore—Asian thermal coal traders noted an uptick in Indian import procurements towards the end of the week despite China taking a backseat, however, sentiment remained mixed on the sustainability of seaborne enquiries, sources said Sept. 4. A producer in Indonesia noted an uptick in Indian seaborne enquiries and reckoned it to be for post-monsoon restocking.“Buyers in India start to make some purchases as the monsoon season subsides, but this might only last for a week to ten days as China is not fully back to the seaborne market,” he said. A trade for a Supramax vessel cargo of Indonesian 4,200 kcal/kg GAR coal was heard at $23.25/mt FOB Kalimantan on Sept. 4.
