London—Rwanda’s government said the international Tin Supply Chain initiative, a program developed to enable upstream companies to comply with the OECD Due Diligence guidance and traceability on mineral supplies from the Central African region, is unnecessary and expensive for miners, according to a website report Wednesday. “We continue to argue that the cost of traceability and due diligence must be reduced to make it affordable and fair,” the Rwandan newspaper The New Times quoted Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board CEO Francis Gatare as saying. “It’s a reason why we have tried as a country to attract other competing instruments.”
