In a pot experiment, rice cv. IR50 was sprayed at various growth stages with brassinosteroid, benzylaminopurine [benzyladenine], gibberellic acid or kinetin, or with mixtures of brassinosteroid with each of the other growth regulators. Treatment effects on numbers of fertile tillers, total and filled spikelets, and on 1000-grain weights (fresh and dry) are tabulated. Brassinosteroid (10-7 M) gave the highest numbers of fertile tillers and filled spikelets, while 1000-grain weights were highest frombrassinosteroid + 10-5 M benzylaminopurine.
