Spero Renewables Awarded U.S. DOE Grant To Develop, Scale-up Biopolymers Process

Goleta-Spero Renewables announced a $1.6-million cooperative agreement with the U.S. Dept. of Energy's (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy to develop and scale up its Sperlu technology for bio-based polymers production. The proprietary Sperlu technology produces polymers from plant-based sources like wood pulp. The resulting polymers are renewable, "much more" environmentally-friendly than current polymers, free of off-gassing emissions, and formaldehyde-free versus current polymers, Spero noted.
