ArcelorMittal Gijon furnace still offline on weak demand

Madrid—ArcelorMittal Spain is operating just one of its two furnaces at its Gijon steel mill after it was taken offline in April, the company told S&P Global Platts. The site has two blast furnaces with combined 4.2 million mt/year crude steel capacity. Furnace A has around 2.7 million mt/year crude steel capacity, according to Platts' data. Spanish industrial data showed a small recovery in May, with the country's industrial production index recovering from a 34% year on year decline in April to an adjusted 24% decline in May, according to official statistics institute INE.
