Alberta coal production climbs 10.2% on month in August

Houston—Coal production in Alberta rose to 1.43 million mt in August, up 10.2% from the 12-year low 1.3 million mt in July, but down 15.7% from 1.7 million mt in the year-ago month, according to data from the Alberta Energy Regulator released Oct. 16.Bituminous thermal coal output declined to 801,274 mt in August, down from 840,488 mt in July, but up from 495,425 mt in the year-ago month. Production at Coalspur Mines's Vista thermal mine, owned by the Cline Group and based in Hinton, rose to 801,274 mt, from 678,353 mt in July and 120,202 mt in August 2019.
