Vietnam August ferrous scrap import volumes hit 11-month high

Singapore—Vietnamese buyers of ferrous scrap continued to increase imports, with volumes in August reaching an 11-month high of 683,340 mt, up 28% from July, and 41% higher than August 2019, preliminary customs data showed. Japan remained the top source of scrap for the country, at 319,569 mt, up 24% on the month. This was followed by the US, up 63% at 148,907 mt, while volumes from Australia totaled 51,434 mt, up more than fourfold from July. In the first eight months of the year, volumes reached 3.81 million mt, up 8.1% year on year.
