World demand growth for nickel in 2019 is forecast to slow to 4.6%, on protectionist measures, Russian miner Norilsk Nickel said on its website Wednesday. The company said that in 2018, the stainless steel and battery sectors were the key demand drivers, with world demand for primary nickel growing 7.2% last year on higher stainless steel output at Chinese Tsingshan’s plant in Indonesia, as well as rising electric car output boosting nickel demand in this sector by 41%.
