S. Korea's steelmakers benefit from high-value vessels

Despite a slowdown in the global shipbuilding industry, South Korean steelmakers arebenefiting from local shipyard's propensity to secure orders for high-value vessels such asliquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers and very large crude carriers (VLCC).From January to August, South Korean shipbuilders won 24 out of 27 orders for new LNGcarriers and 10 out of 17 orders for VLCCs, data from the Ministry of Trade, Industry andEnergy showed.
