For the first time in Korea, Kori Unit 1 has beendesignated as a permanent stoppage nuclear power plant,and the problem of disposal of spent fuel due to theacceptance and disposal of facilities is increasing. Theproblem of disposal of spent fuel due to the operation ofnuclear power plant in Korea, which has not yet beenselected for the site for high level radioactive wastedisposal facility, has influenced the operation anddecommissioning of nuclear power plants in the future.Therefore, in order to construct a high-level radioactivewaste repository in Korea, various studies are needed. Itis necessary to establish the requirement of the regulatorybody on the site characteristics reflecting SSR-5 of IAEA.As a result, KINS (Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety) hasbeen carrying out research projects for the evaluation ofsite characteristics and development of survey standardsfor high-level radioactive waste disposal facilities for fiveyears from April 2018. The scope of this study is ageneral research item for investigating andcharacterizing the site characteristics for guidelines byanalyzing the current status of domestic and foreigntechnology, which is the first year of KINS researchproject period.
