Oil prices settled flat Tuesday, hardly budging at all. But the settlement prices hid a huge swing in intraday volatility that took prices to highs not seen since late spring before crumbling just as the markets closed. In London, ICE Brent gained 2￠ to settle at $78.17 per barrel. At one point in the session, it was pushing right up against $80. Nymex West Texas Intermediate (WTI) in New York, in part getting pushed around by Brent, also took a wild ride to above $70 in the morning but gained just 7￠ for the day to settle at $69.87/bbl.
