Repsol Cancels Ensco Rig After Vietnam Project Halt

Deepwater rig owner Ensco said its customer, Repsol, has terminated a five-well contract for a rig off Vietnam after that country forced the Spanish major to halt work on an oil and gas development project in disputed waters in the South China Sea. Ensco said in a quarterly fleet status report on Monday that Repsol’s contract for semisubmersible rig Ensco 8504, scheduled to commence this month, was terminated due to “a force majeure event.”
