Pipeline expansion uncertainty is driving Canada’s most oil-rich province to add a year to the controversial crude production curtailments ordered in late 2018. Alberta’s leadership is increasing the base deduction to 20,000 barrels per day from 10,000 b/d and adjusting the curtailment formula accordingly, which will result in an overall increase of about 25,000 b/d to the allowed production limit, officials said. The government is also reducing the number of affected producers to 16 from 29 of the 300-plus producers in the Western Canada province. The changes take effect in October.
