Schlumberger Targets Geothermal Projects

Oil-field services giant Schlumberger is advancing its expansion into low-carbon energy technologies by creating a geothermal project development firm with Texas-based Thermal Energy Partners. The new company, STEP Energy, aims to quickly develop 100 MW of geothermal capacity, combining Schlumberger's subsurface and drilling expertise with Thermal Energy Partners' geothermal project development experience. That expansion will start with a 10 MW project on the Caribbean island of Nevis, allowing the tiny country to transition to 100% zero-emissions renewable power. STEP says it is also eyeing opportunities elsewhere in the Eastern Caribbean as well as in North and South America.
