Brazil’s government has scrapped plans to hold a bid round this year for areas outside the country’s offshore pre-salt zone, in yet another sign of how the Saudi Arabia-Russia price war and coronavirus pandemic have slammed the oil sector. Upstream regulator ANP on Wednesday evening said it had approved a “temporary suspension” of the auction, which was to include concession contracts for 128 exploration blocks covering some 64,100 sq km (25,000 sq miles). The bid round was to include acreage in the Campos, Para- Maranhao, Pelotas, Potiguar and Santos basins.
