The US government's decision to impose sanctions on Rosneft Trading, the Swiss subsidiary of Russia's top oil producer, could cause complications for Singapore-based trader Trafigura, which has a strategic alliance with Rosneft stretching back more than six years. Trafigura says it will comply fully with the sanctions, which were prompted by Rosneft Trading's dealings with Venezuela. The US Treasury Department has set a deadline of May 20 for companies to stop doing business with Rosneft Trading or risk being sanctioned themselves (OD Feb.20'20).
