Uzbekistan’s state oil company Uzbekneftegas has signed a $600 million contract with South Korea’s SK Engineering and Construction to modernize the Bukhara oil refinery, the first upgrade in the plant’s 22- year history. The overhaul, which will start in 2020, will allow the 50,000 b/d Bukhara refinery to produce a range of high-quality, more environmen- tally sound products. What’s more, Uzbekneftegas will finally be able to use the full capacity of the refinery, which currently operates at only 62% given a lack of feedstock and a poor product slate, and the turnaround program will shift to a once-every- two-years cycle.
