Is the remnant pancreas still working over a year after surgery in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy with reconstruction by pancreaticogastrostomy?

Background: Pancreaticogastrostomy (PG) has been widely used as an alternative to pancreatojejunostomy (PJ) in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD), but its long-term exocrine function remains unclear. The present study aimed to measure the secretion of pancreatic alpha-amylase (p-AMY) into the gastric cavity in patients who underwent PG reconstruction after PD over 1 year after surgery and to evaluate the relationship between gastric p-AMY level and clinically available indirect tests.
