Atlantic prices rise on tight Colombia supplies, India demand

Atlantic thermal coal markets rose week-on-week, as tighter Colombian and Russian supplies boosted Northwest European prices, while South Africa climbed to a 5-1/2 month high on firm demand from India and Pakistan. Colombian exports are likely to remain significantly lower for the remainder of the year, due to stoppages at Prodeco and Colombia Natural Resources, a strike at Cerrejón, and reduced output due to COVID-19. Colombian law may compel striking workers at Cerrejón to return to work this month. However, output is not expected to recover to fully capacity until well into November.
