Ammonia market participants are bracing themselves for price volatility over the coming weeks as plant shutdowns east and west of Suez make life difficult for buyers seeking urgent cover against existing requirements. Black Sea suppliers report bids on the table above $250/t FOB from buyers relatively desperate for prompt spot tonnes, although a combination of rolling maintenance at Russia's TogliattiAzot, strong Russian and Ukrainian ammonia demand and a heavy programme of contract shipments means sales have not materialised.
