Europe appears to have taken centre stage this week. A mix of turnarounds and outages have given rise to several sales in recent days and culminated in the purchase of 10,000 t by Fertiglobe from Trinidad in the low $230s/t FOB. While on the face of it is a high price compared to the $200/t FOB Caribbean netback agreed in Tampa for November and the $210/t FOB paid to secure an MGC for India, prices are in line with the CFR duty paid/duty free levels being paid in Europe. Freight for an MGC is put at $40-45/t giving a landed price in Northwest Europe of $270-275/t CFR. This price is way above what is being paid in the US and hence the massive gap of some $31/t that has emerged in the Caribbean range.
