The Victorian Terrace at the BRE has been refurbished into three energy efficient homes using Pilkington Spacia. One of the energy efficiency problems of the property, prior to the refurbishement, had been its former sash windows. Victorian sash windows, while being 'aesthetically pleasing', are said to be notorious for allowing heat to escape from a building. Not only are they mostly single glazed, they often do not fit snugly, which can create draughts.
