More than 70 leading firms within the maritime, energy, infrastructure and finance sectors have signed up to a new initiative, launched at the UN Climate Action Summit in New York, aimed at decarbonising the shipping industry by rolling out commercially viable zero emissions vessels by 2030. Companies including Shell, Citibank, Lloyd’s Register, Unilever and Societe Generale aim to put commercially viable, zero emissions ships powered by zero emissions fuels, to sea by 2030, as part of a new partnership between the Global Maritime Forum (GMF), the Friends of Ocean Action and the World Economic Forum, called the Getting to Zero Coalition.
