In the deepwater US Gulf of Mexico (GoM), the existing pipeline and platform infrastructure have made “tieback opportunities a preferred way to optimise cost and commercialize discoveries,” according to analysts GlobalData. An average production of 660,000 boe/d is expected to be added to the US oil supply by 2023, from 30 upcoming projects, of which 23 are developed as tiebacks, with more than US $67.4 Bn of total capital expenditures (capex) spent.
