Renewable power capacity in the UK surpassed fossil fuels for the first time in history, according to a quarterly report from researchers at Imperial College London commissioned by utility Drax. Renewable capacity -- including wind, solar, biomass, hydro and waste -- has grown sixfold since the start of the decade to 41.9 gigawatts, while fossil fuelpowered capacity is at 41.2 GW, Drax's Electric Insights Quarterly Q3 2018 report showed. Wind farms are the main source of renewable capacity at 20.2 GW, followed by solar with 13 GW.
