China has unveiled plans to increase its LNG regasification and storage capacity, as it pushes on with coal-to-gas switching efforts aimed at eradicating air pollution (IOD May30’18). State-controlled energy firm CNOOC has approved the second-phase expansion of its Tianjin floating LNG receiving terminal, which will boost import capacity from 2.2 million tons/yr to 7.25 million tons/yr. This will include the building of land-based facilities like storage tanks and regasification equipment, CNOOC said. It expects the expanded terminal to commence in 2021 and ramp up to full capacity in 2022.
