Iran says plans to develop oil fields in its hydrocarbon-rich West Karun region are progressing, even as uncertainty prevails over the fate of its nuclear deal with Western powers in the face of US President Donald Trump’s tough stance on the country. National Iranian Oil Co.’s (NIOC) deputy managing director for development and engineering affairs, Gholamreza Manouchehri, said a contract would be concluded with local firm Persia Oil and Gas Industry Development Co. (POGIDC) to develop the Yaran field and with China’s Sinopec for the Yadavaran field, where it is already involved in the first phase of development (IOD Dec.28’16). POGIDC signed a preliminary agreement with NIOC to develop four oil fields, including the northern and southern portions of Yaran, under its new Iran Petroleum Contract in 2016 (IOD Oct.5’16).
