BHP said it has launched a five-year, $400 million investment program aimed at developing technologies to reduce carbon emissions from its own operations and from the use of the hydrocarbons it produces. CEO Andrew Mackenzie told a climate-focused event in London sponsored by the Financial Times that the program will “scale up low-emissions technologies” to help it achieve its goal of capping carbon emissions from its operations in 2022 at 2017 levels and “achieve net-zero emissions,” as well as drive investment and action by others.
