SSE Delays UK Power Plant

Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) — one of the UK’s six-biggest electricity suppli- ers — has put plans to build an 800 MW gas-fired power station in Wales on hold for at least two years, until demand returns to levels that warrant its construction, Chief Executive Ian Marchant said. The decision “reflects the short-term fall in demand for electricity following the economic downturn in the UK,” said a note in SSE’s annual report issued Wednesday. SSE said the project, if built, would not be operational before 2015.
