US ofcials are stepping up their attacks on Gazprom’s 55bn m~3/yr Nord Stream 2 pipeline to Germany, but threats of sanctions are yet to translate into action. US ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell restated the policy of opposing the project in a letter to Gazprom’s fnancial partners in Nord Stream 2, warning Shell, German utility Uniper and oil company Wintershall, Austrian integrated oil frm OMV and French energy company Engie to consider the reputational and sanctions risk. The US says Nord Stream 2 is a political project - redirecting Russian gas sup- ply to Europe and away from traditional transit routes through Ukraine.
